How to Harness Your Fullest Energy in Fall

As we roll into mid-autumn, I find myself naturally having my energy online and wanting to channel it into more productive activities that harness this momentum to its fullest potential. Fall is a Yang season, which means one of action. There is a lot of energy moving in the natural world, of which we are a part of. When unguided, this time of year can feel like a whirlwind, yet when directed with focus and intent, it can be an incredible time for manifestation.

Watching the leaves transition has reminded me that despite everything that goes on around us, it’s important to take a moment to pause and reflect on where we are directing our energy. How do you wish to lead your life? What do you want to manifest? Do you have your priorities straight? Are you putting energy in to the right places? Are you where you want to be?

Three weeks ago when I started my #21DaystoRecalibrate challenge, I was feeling super ungrounded. The challenge supported me in asking some of the questions above and I was able to make daily choices that helped me focus my energy. I am happy to share that I now feel recharged and ready to head into the rest of the year with clear goals and actions to support that. If you’ve been keen to find activities that could help you harness your energy too, here’s some ideas you could try that has personally worked for myself:

Set Priorities, and stick to them

It can be easy to feel overwhelmed if you have a lot on your plate. For example, this last month’s work priority has been to launch the new Inspired Yoga Institute website (super exciting – watch new teacher training programs in November!). It doesn’t mean that other projects aren’t tended to, it just means that if I only had an hour to get work done, this is it. Focusing on one thing keeps the mind sharp without wasting time on needing to switch gears.

Do more Yoga

Ever since I started practicing, yoga has naturally become a big part of my life and has been an anchor to my overall well being. Asana connects me to my body, breath, calibrates my energy body and savasana at the end is such a treat. Choosing the right class is important! Some days a sweaty vinyasa class moves stagnant energy, other times a restorative practice is exactly what I need to slow down and rejuvenate. Whatever the style, it is as simple as breathing and really going deep with awareness into every single pose  which slowly but surely, harnesses the energy that is within me.

Practice stillness and meditation

A minute of stillness can do so much to your state of mind when you’re feeling clouded. I try to make it a point to meditate and sit in gratitude as often as possible. By taking even 5 minutes of your day to be present, you not only allow a moment that is personally for you, but you also give space to your thoughts to recalibrate itself from all the “issues” that may be running through your mind. Many teachers say that 20 mins of meditation can equal 4 hours of sleep, so well worth your time.

Spend time with nature

This one is my personal favorites. And as my love for travel is clear, (I’m headed to Iceland soon and you can still join me for this trip!) I choose destinations that are raw in beauty which invokes a sense of awe within me. Being with mother nature’s stunning landscapes transports me to a place of wonder, lifting me out of my “small self”and into connection with this vast universe. Of course you don’t have to book a ticket to a faraway destination just to spend time with nature. When I am back in Calgary I often take walks at the park which does the exact same trick and I invite you to do the same. Fish Creek, Weaslehead, and Confederation Park are my favs.

Now it’s your turn. What activities have you been doing to harness your energy? Share them with me in the comments section below!
